How is bulk SMS priced?

Four rules decide every price on this site. They apply the same way in the console and in the API, so an estimate is always the final amount.

  • Per segment

    A price is for one segment to one recipient. A longer text uses more segments and each one costs the same rate.

  • Per country

    Each destination has its own rate, set by the cost of reaching networks there. The rate is the same for every number in that country.

  • Per send, not per month

    No subscription, no number rental and no setup fee. If you do not send, you do not pay anything.

  • Refunded on failure

    A message that fails is refunded to your balance automatically, and a scheduled campaign canceled before it starts is refunded in full.

Segments

How many segments is my message?

Phones read SMS in one of two alphabets. Text written only with the GSM-7 set (Latin letters, digits and common punctuation) fits 160 characters in one segment. A single character outside that set, such as an emoji, Arabic, Cyrillic, Chinese or a curly quote, switches the whole message to UCS-2, which fits 70 characters.

When a message is longer than one segment it is split, and each part keeps a few characters for the phone to join them back together: 153 per part in GSM-7 and 67 in UCS-2. The console counter shows the alphabet, the segments and the characters left as you type.
