What should I know before sending SMS to Central and South America?

Spanish is the main language in most countries and Portuguese in Brazil. Both use the Latin alphabet, but several accented letters (á, í, ó, ú, ã, õ, ç and ê) are not in GSM-7. A message that contains them is sent in UCS-2 at 70 characters per segment, so short wording or unaccented spelling keeps campaigns at one segment.

Most of the population lives between UTC-6 (Mexico City and Central America) and UTC-3 (Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo). Retailers, lenders, delivery apps and political campaigns are frequent senders, and mobile numbers are usually written with a mobile prefix that you keep after the country code.
